Does Harry Potter Get Married?

Many girls at Hogwarts thought themselves big fans of famous Harry Potter. Some of them admired him from afar, and some were brave enough to ask him to the Yule Ball. There was even one who unsuccessfully tried a love potion.

Harry, however, found his love, in his biggest fan, who admired him quietly from a short distance and for a rather long time.

Does Harry Potter Get Married?

Did Harry Potter Marry?

Yes, Harry Potter got married, although, for a long time, he considered girls to be scarier than a Hungarian Horntail.

After he got a bit braver (or maybe just grew up a little), Harry pined after a pretty girl from Ravenclaw. He soon found out that they had nothing in common except Cedric Diggory.

Soon after that short affair was over, he noticed the person who was waiting for him all the time, right under his nose.

The choice of Harry’s bride was a little bit of a surprise to most fans, and even J.K. Rowling admitted that she might have made a mistake.

Who Did Harry Potter Marry?

The person Harry married is Ginny Weasley, the youngest child of Molly and Arthur Weasley.

Harry started to date Ginny after his fiasco with Cho Chang. For most fans, it makes no sense because of the time it took Harry to notice Ginny. It seemed like one day, he woke up and decided he would fall in love with Ron’s little sister.

Why Did Harry and Ginny Get Married?

For Ginny, it was an obvious choice. She has been in love with Harry ever since she saw him at Kings Cross when she was only ten years old. She was silently pining for him all those years, even when she tried to fill her waiting time dating other boys.

For Harry, Ginny wasn’t the first choice of a dream girl. It was Cho Chang, who he noticed during his third year at Hogwarts. After almost two years of chasing after Cho, it became obvious they didn’t have anything in common.

Then, out of nowhere, he noticed Ginny. We are not saying he didn’t love her, but the books (and movies) leave a lot of the connection up in the open. We never got to experience the build-up of Harry and Ginny’s relationship. It just happened.

Many fans also noticed how similar Ginny was to Harry’s mother, Lily. They suspect that there could be “mommy issues” involved, and Harry unconsciously married the perfect copy of his late mother.

They might have got together because of their common traits and passion for sports, but because it is a tale with happy endings, we must believe Harry and Ginny married for love.

When Did Harry and Ginny Get Married?

The epilogue at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows happened in 2017. We read that Harry and Ginny were sending two of their kids to Hogwarts, James and Albus. The older one, James, was starting his third year at school. It would make him 13 years old.

We know that the epilogue happened 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts in 1998. Ginny had one more year to finish school, so she graduated in 1999.

Harry and Ginny married sometime between 1999 and 2003. Considering that Ginny comes from an old-fashioned wizarding family, she probably got married before thinking about kids.

Our guess would be that she started to play with Holyhead Harpies under her family name and married before she got pregnant with her first child. In that case, we believe that Harry and Ginny married in 2003 when Harry was 23, and Ginny was 22 years old.

Final Thoughts

Many fans disagree with J.K. Rowling’s decision of pairing Harry and Ginny because of how well Harry and Hermione fit together.

Unfortunately for them, Rowling wrote the end of the saga before finishing other books, and it was a self-fulfilling prophecy. She later admitted that she made a mistake by putting Ron and Hermione together.

Regardless of all that, Harry married Ginny, and they had three kids. After all this time, we can probably get used to them being together, and we can see that they have things in common.
