Does Draco Malfoy Have a Son?

Draco Malfoy was a school arch-nemesis of Harry Potter throughout most of the books.

Draco was always proud and out of personal reach. It is sometimes hard to imagine he married at all.

Indeed, Draco married, and he also had a kid who attended Hogwarts and became best friends with Harry’s son, Albus Potter.

Does Draco Have a Son?

Does Draco Malfoy Have a Son?

Yes. Draco has a son. His name is Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy, and he is the only child of Draco and Astoria Malfoy.

Scorpius Malfoy was born in 2006, and in 2017, 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts, he started his first year at the school alongside Albus Potter and Rose Granger-Weasley.

Albus and Scorpius were Sorted into the same House, Slytherin, and became best friends.

Draco and his son received a sad blow just before Scorpius’s fourth year at Hogwarts. Astoria, Draco’s wife, passed due to an inherited blood curse, making Scorpius a half-orphan.

Draco loved his son very much and considered his day of birth the greatest day of his life. Draco raised Scorpius to be a better man than himself and not to be prejudiced towards non-pureblood witches and wizards.

Was Scorpuis Bad?

Scorpius wasn’t bad, although, at some point, Harry might have disagreed. From the Cursed Child, we know that Draco raised Scorpius differently than how Lucius raised him. Draco instilled in his son to be a generous and polite person and never judge others based on their blood status.

Scorpius was a geeky and awkward boy, falsely ostracized by other kids for being the child of Lord Voldemort. He didn’t care what others thought of him.

He formed a friendship with Albus Potter, who was also mocked for being a “Potter in Slytherin,” and helped young Albus disregard the mockery.

Scorpius was also looked at through the Malfoy family Prisma. Many people thought Scorpius must be a bad person because of his pureblooded family, supporters of Lord Voldemort, and blood purity.

Scorpius meddled with the past to prevent Cerdic Diggory’s death but ultimately failed and almost permanently changed the future for the worse.

He had done it not because of his vile nature. On the contrary, he wanted to make something good for others.

Who Plays Draco Malfoy’s Son?

In the main Harry Potter series, Scorpius Malfoy doesn’t play any big part. Our Golden Trio noticed him on the platform before boarding Hogwarts Express. It was the first time they laid their eyes on the boy.

There were, however, a few other productions where Scorpius Malfoy played a more significant, if not leading, role. Those productions were mostly theatre plays and one fan-made short film.

There were five actors so far portraying Scorpius Malfoy.

In the movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Draco’s son is played by actor Bertie Gilbert. We can see him on platform 9 3/4 in the epilogue part at the end of the movie.

In a fan-made 30 minute movie titled James Potter and the Heir of the Swordactor Kutay Kalabalik plays the role of Scorpius Malfoy. It is a fan adaptation of the Cursed Child with a twist, the King Arthur’s Monster prophecy, and two Potter brothers’ rivalry.

In the West End and Broadway productions of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Draco’s son was played by actor Anthony Boyle

In the original Melbourne Cast of the same play, actor William McKenna took the place of Anthony Boyle as Scorpius Malfoy, and the original San Francisco Cast had actor Jon Steiger in the same role.

Conclusion

In the beginning, Draco Malfoy didn’t want any children because of his wife’s health condition. Astoria was cursed with a hereditary blood curse, and Draco knew that pregnancy would shorten her life.

Astoria insisted that Draco should have company when she was no longer alive, and they had a son, Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy.

Draco promised himself that he would be a better father than one he had, and he raised Scorpius to be a good human being. Even though Scorpius made many mistakes, he made them from the desire to help others.
